Klein case studies
Client: Klein
Project: project case studies
Klein is widely regarded as New Zealand’s most experienced and acclaimed healthcare design practice.
With a groundbreaking new project for acute mental healthcare – Tiaho Mai at Middlemore Hospital – Klein commissioned us to document the design and development process and the building case study write-up. We interviewed the client team to get insight into their model of care and project needs, and the Klein team to see how this project stemmed from the active R&D programme within the architectural practice.
Excerpt:
‘The courtyard model was clearly a step-change. Single-loaded corridors felt safer, more open and less institutional. Courtyards offered fresh air, natural light and access to nature. The higher-quality environment enabled people to heal sooner and be better prepared. It was a turning point for us and reinforced Klein’s focus on evidence-based design research for better health outcomes.’
