Excerpt:

‘On one green island, in a valley that opens to the sea, three black pavilions trace the land contour. Conceived as a series of ‘verandas’, this house by architect Dave Strachan is permeated by the elements. Each pavilion – one for living and two for sleeping – is turned at a slight angle to its neighbour. The resultant wedge-shaped spaces between allow air and water to enter the building into two bathhouses, one with a plunge pool and the other a bathroom. Although thermally sealed, these spaces are detailed as though they are out of doors, with slatted floors, pergola roofs and cedar weatherboard lining.’
